We've always wondered if it's OK to toss shampoo containers in the recycling bin with our Evian bottles. Anne Johnson, director of the Sustainable Packaging Coalition, explains how to recycle beauty products:
Look for a recycling symbol and a number 1 or 2 on container bottoms; both are usually recyclable. (Ask your local recycling center if they accept other plastic types.) If there's no symbol, don't chance itthe plastic could contain contaminants.
If you separate glass, plastic, and aluminum, remove caps made from different materials than the containers.
