Not everything that happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. A decade ago, Sin City was full of brio about becoming an art-tourism destination. But with the closure of the Las Vegas Museum of Art in February, the desert hot spot is now the biggest U.S. city without a public art museum. This blow follows hotelier Steve Wynn's conversion of his much-hyped gallery into a Rolex shop, and the closing of a Guggenheim outpost at the Venetian. "We were just wrong," says art critic Dave Hickey, who moved to Vegas in the 1990s, anticipating a cultural shift.
