NASCAR is paying close attention as the National Football League discusses additional games that might extend its season. The Super Bowl is usually held the last weekend in January, before any stock-car activity at Daytona International Speed-way. But if the NFL adds games, as some owners want, the Super Bowl might move to mid-February, the traditional date of NASCAR's opener. If that happensprobably not before 2012NASCAR almost certainly will reschedule the Daytona 500.
Jeffrey Earnhardt, the 19-year-old grandson of the late Dale Earnhardt, will make his Nationwide Series debut on May 30 at Dover International Speedway. He and his father, Kerry Earnhardt, will run a limited Nationwide schedule for Rick Ware Racing.
The annual All-Star Race at Lowe's Motor Speedway has a new format. The May 15 exhibition will start with 50-, 20- and 20-lap segments and conclude with a 10-lap shoot-out paying $1 million. The race is open to Cup winners from 2008 and this year, plus past all-star and series champions, the winner and runner-up from a preliminary race and a driver added by fan vote.
