The U.S. will receive $124 million as the first major infusion of funds towards the U.S. contribution to ITER construction. The agreement was reached between House and Senate appropriations conferees and will be part of the FY 2009 Omnibus Appropriations Bill. The U.S. Department of Energy, and other agencies, have been on "continuing resolution" since October 1, 2008 for FY 2009 which ends September 30. Under the agreement, the balance of the U.S. Office of Fusion Energy Sciences effort will remain constant at about $278 million, the same amount provided in FY 2008.
