TRAIN bosses have promised "a new era" of rail travel in the North East, with a new phase of investment starting today across the country.
Network Rail's five year plan includes track renewal, signal improvements, extra capacity for passengers and freight and more seats on more trains.
The London North Eastern route, which includes the North East region and the East Coast Main Line, will have pounds 1.4bn spent on it.
