The global soft drink market represents one of the largest markets in value terms for commercially produced food and beverages it is an international market responding to a basic human need, with all consumers needing a daily intake of 64 ounces of liquids. According to a recent study by Euromonitor, soft drinks are taking an increasing proportion in some parts of the world consumption is still very low.

Growth in sales of softdrinks has increased throughout the 1992-1996 review period, aided by growing consumption levels, particularly in developing regions, as well as fundamental changes in drinking habits. In developed regions of the world, consumers have been cutting intake of all forms of alcohol, and are looking for products that are perceived as healthier alternatives.
