* Both the GT and Tour-ing Car championships were decided in the last race of the 2008 SCCA Speed World Challenge series, capping off a competitive season. We expect more of the same in 2009.
In TC, Peter Cunningham won his fifth title on the last lap of the season's last race, holding off Real-Time Acura TSX teammate Kuno Wittmer. Another teammate, Pierre Kleinubing, was second in points. In the faster GT class, Randy Pobst repeated as champion in his K-PAX/3R Porsche 911 GT3, holding off Andy Pilgrim and his Cadillac CTS-V.
Probably the most interesting off-season development was the announcement that K-PAX/3R Racing will switch to Volvo, fielding all-wheel-drive S60s, one for Pobst and one for Pilgrim. Powered by turbocharged 2.5-liter engines, they'll run in the GT class, against Porsches, Dodge Vipers and Ford Mustangs. The move was made so late that the team expects the opening race to be the Volvo's first real test.
