This has been a difficult year for me partly because I took a month off in May to fly to London to do some work on the John Lang Project in the British Library. I am still trying to catch up. The publication of Legends of India was completed and work on Lang's novel Plot and Passion or The Secret Police has also been completed. All the other things I intended to do in 2008 will have to be done in 2009.
In spite of the claims that 'everything' is now available on the Internet I had to go to London's British Library, to consult the huge mountain of papers of the East India Company. They are not on the Internet. They have not been digitised and there are no plans to do that. Many newspapers are available now but the Indian ones which have John Lang material in them have not been dealt with. I am fortunate that The Mofussilite has been microfilmed and the National Library of Australia has a copy which means that I can certainly use that source for material.
