Murray, McDermott back bill to end import duties

For K2 Inc., it's been "a crazy situation," and the company figured maybe U.S. Sen. Patty Murray and Rep. Jim McDermott could lend a hand.

Murray has done just that. Last week, the Washington Democrat introduced legislation specifically aimed at helping K2 cut its cost of making skis.

Meanwhile, McDermott, D-Seattle, has sponsored the same bill in the House.

Based on Vashon Island, the original K2 company made skis, and still does. In 1985, it was purchased by Los Angeles-based Anthony Industries Inc., which subsequently changed its own name to K2.
