A local dental assistant, who requested anonymity, had to have hand surgery due to carpal tunnel syndrome, and she was among the many dental professionals and nurses who constantly face various risks of musculoskeletal pains, learnt the Bulletin.

They - the dentists, nurses and assistants - are perhaps some of the unsung heroes in today's medical health services. A substantial number of them have suffered from the effects of the nature of their work, ranging from mild, transient symptoms to more severe complications that require intense treatments.
