After we drove a 2009 Subaru Forester 2.5XT Limited around Catalina Island off the California coast ("Double Time, AW, March 31, 2008), the Subaru's new boxy design, off-road capability and high functionality sold us on the third-generation model. So we added one to our long-term fleet.
Our Forester arrived with 37 miles on the odometer. After the first 1,000 miles of break-in driving, we didn't hesitate to take advantage of the car's 2.5-liter turbocharged flat-four and its 224 hp and 226 lb-ft of torque.
