It's only a matter of time. Some-day the personal navigation device (PND) on your dashboard will tell you how much dog food is in your pet's bowl, how the Jets will do in the 2011 season and the mood of your girlfriend before you get to her house.
We're not there yet, but we continue to be amazed at how much information now comes through those little 4.3-inch screens suction-cupped to the windshield. We recently tried out a Garmin Nuvi 785T, fully loaded with MSN Direct, and we liked what we got. In addition to live traffic, gasoline prices, weather, headlines, stocks, local events and movie times, MSN Direct offers Dop-pler weather maps and flight status at nearby airports. It also has maps and directions.
Driving back from a weekend ski trip at night, we were able to see blotches of light pink and dark pink on the screen, indicating that we were headed straight into a blizzard. Then, fwoomp, we were in it. We could also see where the blizzard ended and knew that the rest of the drive would be clear, which it was.
