Centara diversifies with plans for budget, boutique hotels.

Centara Hotels and Resorts plans to diversify its business by adding budget and boutique categories aimed at different clienteles in a bid to adapt during the global economic crisis.

The group also plans to upgrade some of its existing five-star hotels to "five star plus" or even six star.

It will be the first time in 30 years that the group will depart from the four- and five-star categories.

The group is setting up a joint venture with a foreign hotel-management firm to run budget properties.
