Fighting talk from Bush and Russia Today NEWS that Barack Obama intends sending another 17 000 troops to Afghanistan comes as wonderful encouragement to those who prefer their wars long, bloody and pointless. After years of neglect in favour of the Iraqis during the Bush years, Afghans can once again look forward to the full armed munificence of the US. And who in their right mind would not savour being bombed by so high-minded a president, a man of such noble intentions? A man who has the Tully-bun in his sights? If by changing the world Obama also meant rearranging the finer details of Afghan geology, the president may be on to something here. …
