Booksellers offer manga samples via cell phone

A group operating bookstores and other businesses in Shimane and Tottori prefectures has developed a system to allow customers to read the first few pages of manga comic books on a cell phone.

Imai Shoten Group Co. is experimenting with the system at 11 bookstores--six at Matsue-based Imaibooks' branches in both prefectures, and five in Tokyo. Through this system, bookstores can ascertain how many times a certain manga has been accessed and at which store, and can use the information to improve product distribution.
