The trouble with the Israeli election is that Tzipi Livni of the center-left Kadima party and Bibi Netanyahu of center-right Likud won it more or less equally. Neither of them has anything like the numbers necessary for government, so the end result will be a coalition of some sort. Israel is basically a leftist country, and Livni might be able to appeal to the abiding wish to reach some kind of peace with the Palestinians. However, the electorate has been disenchanted that the campaigns against Hezbollah and Hamas ended without the clear-cut defeat of terror, and it has swung right.
