Feb. 23--The St. Thomas Aquinas girls' water polo team is still under construction.
With a solid foundation in team leaders Martina Shorkey and Kat Bauguess, veteran coach Gary Besbris is rebuilding the team with sophomores and juniors eager to keep the program's winning tradition intact.
"We are young," Besbris said. "This is the youngest team we have had in years. The strength of our program will be Martina and Kat. We are building the team around them."
The Raiders, 113-23 over six seasons, may be a work in progress but are still the team to beat when the high school water polo season gets under way this week.
