WASHINGTON

WASHINGTON--Astronaut Koichi Wakata and colleagues currently are preparing for a flight aboard the space shuttle Discovery to deliver a solar panel S6 truss--the last major segment to be attached to the International Space Station.

With the likely addition of the truss later this month, the ISS will become fully operational and capable of being manned by six astronauts.

The first segments of the ISS were launched in November 1998. The main purpose of the space station is to provide a zero-gravity environment for scientific experiments. However, at present, …
