The Industry Ministry will ask for Bt1 billion from the government's Bt100-billion supplementary budget to help 80,000 jobless workers in the industrial sector.

After a meeting yesterday with the Public and Private Industrial Intelligence Centre, permanent secretary Damri Sukhothanang said the proposed funds would be used to train the workers for industries facing a labour shortage.

Training will be provided to workers in companies that sign an agreement not to terminate their employees, he said.
