The Liberal Democratic Party is set to start preparations within the month to select party candidates for the proportional representation races of the 2010 House of Councillors election, hoping to draw up a first-stage list of candidates in April.
The move is aimed at encouraging the nominees to support LDP candidates in the House of Representatives election to be held this year. The LDP hopes that doing so will help revive popular support for the party while also mending ties with industrial associations that have become disillusioned with the ruling party in recent years.
