A military chaplain may not be the first thing that comes to mind when most think of psychotherapy. Nevertheless, these mental and spiritual health providers are working day in and day out in an attempt to talk out life's frustrations with their clients--in this case, the clients are military personnel.
Henry Beaulieu, a Montgomery, Alabama, pastor and chaplain, spent a year in Baghdad with a National Guard unit. In an article in the Montgomery Advertiser, he tells of the stories and the soldiers he met with who were struggling with their experiences of trauma and loss. Similar to everyday civilians, some handle these experiences well, and others react in ways that interfere with their ability to perform daily tasks and live normal lives.
