Jan. 22--Former Delray Beach pastor John Skehan pleaded guilty to stealing from his church, then sprinted away from reporters trying to question him Wednesday. His successor, the Rev. Francis Guinan, who also appeared in court Wednesday, plans to fight identical charges.

Skehan, 81, stood before Circuit Judge Jeffrey Colbath and ended a three-year effort to hold him accountable for hundreds of thousands of dollars stolen from St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church in Delray Beach.

Although there had been talk of plea agreements, Skehan instead made an open plea, which means the judge will decide his punishment. Sentencing guidelines …
