So you want to drive a true-blue American car? That may be a bit harder to find than you think.

There are actually no cars on the market today that are classified as 100 percent American. The best a consumer with patriotic intentions can do is the Ford Crown Victoriaand that's actually assembled in Ontario. That's right, America's old-school sedan is built in the Great White North.

But that's OK with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which measures the content of cars sold in the United States to compile its annual list. In a nod to the global nature of today's auto industry, NHTSA counts parts from the United States and Canada for its rankings.
