Graham Rahal, 20, is one of the youngest drivers in Indy-car history and is the sport's youngest winner. But age notwithstanding, Bobby Rahal's son generally has a fair perspective, and he's right on this point: Justin Wilson deserves to be considered for what could be an open seat at Team Penske this year.
First things first. Penske's Helio Castroneves has not gone to trial yet on federal tax-evasion charges, and as the calendar turns, he faces a major legal mess. At stake is not only an interruption of his driving career but, if convicted, a potentially lengthy prison spell. As a Brazilian residing in the United States on a work visa, he could lose his right to live and work here.
Roger Penske remains mum on the No. 3 car's future but said he will make a decision soon; it stands to reason that as Castroneves prepares to stand trial in March, a replacement driver will be in place soon, if not already.
Which leads us to Wilson, Rahal's teammate for the past two seasons at Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing. Rahal insisted he has squeezed no employment information from Wilson, except to say that sponsorship is not in ...
