This is my final editorial as the editor of Australian Academic & Research Libraries. I am now living outside Australia and consider it inappropriate for an Australian journal to be edited from abroad: an editor based outside the country cannot adequately represent the views and activities of the profession in Australia. I am pleased to note that Dr Bob Pymm has been appointed as the next editor from the start of 2009. Dr Pymm is currently the Reviews Editor of AARL.

I wish to record my thanks to the many people without whose assistance AARL would not have appeared:

* The contributors, especially Australian academics who continue to offer high-quality material to AARL in an environment where publishing in Australian journals is not as highly regarded as publishing in journals published overseas, and professionals who find time in their busy work schedules to research and write;

* The many academics and professionals who generously and freely give their time to referee submissions;
