Jan. 7--PROCTOR -- The Superior High School boys hockey team notched its sixth win in its last seven games with a 5-1 win Tuesday night at Proctor. After completing a stretch of four games in six days this past weekend, the Spartans (8-3 overall, 1-1 in the Lake Superior Conference) have three more games this week. To go along with the win at Proctor, Superior hosts Duluth Central at 8 p.m. Thursday and Hudson at 2 p.m. Saturday. Pat Dalbec and Jake Mergen scored two goals each and Tyler Plunkett added another for Superior. Mergen's goals were the first of his varsity career. The Spartans struck first as Dalbec put the puck in off the pads of Proctor goaltender Derek Robinson after taking a mid-ice pass from Jake Tollas, a sophomore defenseman. Proctor tied it up on Luke Davidson's goal less than two minutes later. Plunkett gave Superior the lead for good when he put home the rebound of a shot by Tyler Leuthner. Dan Kolenda also assisted.
