'Naive' singer says song has no racial overtones 'It's not a political song at all. I used bobbejaan because it is the closest animal to humans' AN Afrikaans musician has defended a recent hit that refers to bobbejaan language, insisting it was not meant to be racist or derogatory.

Fredi Nest, known to some as South Africa's Chris de Burgh, claimed the chorus of a recent hit, which goes Net in Afrikaans/ nie in Engels / Nie in bobbejaan nie / Net in Afrikaans, was not a political statement at all.

Nest insisted that the chorus had no racial implications whatsoever.
