This special issue of the Canadian Journal of Regional Science deals with the theme of territorial governance. This theme has been rapidly emerging as a central preoccupation in regional science, both among scholars and practitioners. It is increasingly recognised as complex because of the multiplicity of actors implicated. The articles in this special issue provide different perspectives on the issues involved. This special issue confirms one of the directions that the Canadian Journal of Regional Science has been taking for over 10 years, i.e. contributing to the practical and policy issues involved in regional science while maintaining high academic standards.

The Canadian Journal of Regional Science is indebted to Professor Jean-Francois Simard, of the Centre de recherche en developpement territorial-Universite du Quebec en Outaouais (CRDT-UQO), who arranged a financial contribution from the Centre for this special issue. As Editor, I would also like to thank Professor Simard and his editorial team, particularly Nathalie Proulx, for the very important role they played in arranging for the evaluations of the papers submitted, and for their high level of professionalism and their incredible attention to detail in helping me bring this important project to fruition.
