Dec. 31--DULUTH -- The Superior High School boys hockey team finished in third place in the Duluth Marshall Hilltopper Holiday Classic with a 4-1 over Madison Edgewood Wednesday afternoon at Mars Lakeview Arena.

Picking up his second straight in goal for the Spartans was junior Joel Pettingill, who finished with 18 saves. He lost his shutout bid when Cody Strang scored unassisted with 6:33 remaining in the third period. Superior improves to 6-3 on the season, while Edgewood, which was ranked No. 1 in Wisconsin, falls to 5-2-1.
