The adage about speed winning races and consistency winning championships was Exhibit One in this year's final Nationwide Series points standings. Roush Fenway Racing's Carl Edwards won seven times in his Ford, had 19 top-five finishes and 22 top-10s and earned 105 lap-leader bonus points. In most years, that would have been enough to deliver his second consecutive series title.
But week in and week out, Chevrolet driver Clint Bowyer of Richard Childress Racing was even more consistent. He won the title by 21 points, but certainly not because he was faster than every-one else. Five drivers had more wins, and six others won as many (one). But Bowyer is a first-time champion because he had more top-10s than Edwards and, most important, no DNFs. In the end, his solitary win, 14 top-fives and 29 top-10s (seven more than anyone else) were good enough to deny Edwards another title.
