Raphael Matos did not have the same type of dominant Firestone Indy Lights season that Alex Lloyd had in 2007, but it ended with a championship just the same.
Matos won three races and five poles and used his consistency and talent to land an IndyCar Series ride with Luczo Dragon Racing for 2009.
Driving for the AFS/ Andretti Green Racing partnership, Matos won on three street and road circuits (St. Petersburg, Watkins Glen and Mid-Ohio) to post an average finishing position of 6.5 for his third open-wheel title in the past four seasons. He won the Star Mazda title in 2005 and the Atlantic Champion-ship crown in 2007.
