WEBBER EYES QUICK RETURN
Red Bull Racing's Mark Webber aims to return to Formula One in time to test the team's 2009 car as soon as it is finished. Webber fractured a leg in Tasmania when he collided with a car while riding his bike during the Mark Webber Chal-lenge charity event (Competition, Dec. 1).
"I'm definitely aiming to drive the car at the first test [in February]. Whether that's going to be possible, I don't know, Webber told BBC Radio. "But if I have to wait another week or 10 days for the sake of the whole season, I will.
FUTURE F1 STAR?
Eighteen-year-old Mirko Bortolotti set the fastest lap time of 2008 so far on Ferrari's private Fiorano test track. The Formula One team gave F1 tests to the top three finishers in the 2008 Italian Formula Three Championship, and Bortolotti, the new champion, startled onlookers by posting the fastest time, 59.11 seconds. Runner-up Edoardo Piscopo set a time of 60.37 seconds, and Salvatore Cicatelli posted 61.24 seconds. "These boys astonished me, said Ferrari sporting director Luca Baldiserri.
