As I write this, Hurricane Ike is within twelve hours of making landfall in Texas; currently, it appears that the storm will strike directly at the Houston-Galveston area. Houstonians with long memories will be comparing Ike to Hurricane Alicia, which devastated the region in 1983, killing twenty-one and doing $2.6 billion in damage.
