The International City/County Management Association (ICMA), with the help of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is offering $500,000 in grants to support "compelling new projects" at public libraries. While the examples provided by ICMA--services for teen and immigrant residents and efforts involving recycling and public safety--may not be novel to everyone, the new grants aim to move libraries toward the center of city managers' concern.
