Just before 9:00 a.m. on a summer morning in Las Vegas, you will see homeless people lined up in the shade of a stone wall and children standing with parents near a parking lot, waiting for the downtown library to open. Once inside, the two groups diverge. The homeless move to the tables and carrels in the library to rest; the children and parents gravitate toward the discovery museum, which shares the same building. Few people actually read.
