A NURSING home carer has won ?15,000 compensation after she was fired for not working at Christmas.
Hannah Ryan, who claimed unfair dismissal by Seamus Carew and the Millbrea Lodge Nursing home in Newport, Co. Tipperary, told the Employment Appeals Tribunal that she had worked there for more than four years.
When she first applied for the job, she had explained to the director of nursing and joint proprietor of the home that she had relatives in England who visited every Christmas and thereforeshe did not work on ChristmasDay.
She was availabletowork on St Stephens Day or New Years Day and had not worked on ChristmasDay between 2002 and 2005.
