Saving lives and dollars with health screening
Two years ago, the future of the nation's health care system was hanging in the balance - and so was the financial future of local businesswomen Laurie Lee and Cathey M. Gordon.
At issue was whether the Clinton Administration would be successful at overhauling the system and forever changing health care delivery as Americans knew it.
If the government had gone into the managed care business, Lee and Gordon would have had to drastically change their company's course, if not scratch their InterFit Inc. health screening business altogether.
"We were really nervous," says Lee, the president of InterFit. "If health care was going to be community rated, companies would not have incentive to reduce costs and take a preventive approach. That year we were sweating."
