The faction of the Somali Islamic Courts headed by Shaykh Sharif Shaykh Ahmad has violated for the first time the peace agreement between the interim Somali government and the Djibouti-based wing of the Alliance for Re-liberation of Somalia [ARS] headed by Shaykh Sharif Shaykh Ahmad.

The treaty which called for a cessation of hostilities and withdrawal of Ethiopian troops from Somalia, among other things, was broken today by the Shaykh Sharif-led wing of the Islamic Courts, which launched a heavy attack on interim Somali government soldiers and Ethiopian troops guarding Villa Somalia …
