Not my call: a missionary wife in India? Not me!

We'd been married only a few months, but already I felt at home in the church where my husband, Rick, was song leader and assistant pastor. In a few years, the elderly pastor would retire and hand the reins to Rick. I had great plans for sprucing up the old building, increasing membership, and starting a family.

Then after the service one night, Rick took my hands and said, "Robin, God has called me to the mission field. India is in my heart."

Huh? None of what he said made sense. I'd thought we wanted the same thing: to pastor this church, right here in the States, with the mall just down the road. Maybe Rick heard God wrong.

In any case, I wouldn't go to India. I'd tell Rick, too, when things calmed down.
