THE GOVERNMENT IS EYEING A new round of informal talks with the communists as proposed by the Norwegian government.

Presidential Peace Adviser Hermogenes Esperon said yesterday informal talks were the most the government could do, given existing impediments to the resumption of formal peace talks.

He was apparently referring to a range of atrocities committed by armed communist rebels over the last 10 months.

Esperon said the proposal to hold informal talks in Oslo was presented to the Philippine government on Nov. 10 by Norwegian facilitator Vegar Brynildsen and Ambassador Risa Torstein.
