THE Police have stepped up foot patrols in the city to stem a new wave of crime. The crime involves gangs with iron bars who hit residents before robbing them.

It has been taking root over the past two months in Kampala.

The Mobile Police Patrol Unit boss, Christopher Abache, yesterday said 500 policemen are dispatched everyday to various police in Kampala.

The Police divisions are: Katwe, Old Kampala, Jinja Road, Kiira Road, Wandegeya, the Central Police Station, Kiira and Kawempe.

The policemen, he said, are deployed in sections of 12 men, who are subdivided into groups of two.
