THE CHAMPIONSHIP AUTO Racing Auxiliary charity work is well documented, and we hold an auction every year to benefit it. This year, the need is even greater, so dig into those pockets, bid on unique gifts and make others happy with your largesse.
The rules: The auction is online only (at autoweek.com/cara). No phone bids. Bidding closes Dec. 1, and you'll have five business days to get a certified check or money order, payable to CARA, to us at AutoWeek, Attention: Darleen White, 1155 Gratiot Ave., Detroit, MI 48207.
* Scott Dixon, the 2008 Indy 500 and Indy-Car Series champ, signed a pair of driving gloves in celebration of his great year. They will be framed with a 2008 hero card.
* Four-time Indy 500 winner Rick Mears is a legend. The Mears package includes an autographed copy of his new book, Thanks, an autographed lithograph and a Rick Mears Christmas ornament.
* When four-time Champ Car champion Sebastien Bourdais moved back to Europe, he cleaned his closet, and CARA benefited. Seven Bridgestone Pole Award hats and two Bridgestone third-place podium hats all are autographed, with 8-by-10 color photos showing him wearing each.
