Chisinau, 8 November: Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin has called the regime of Igor Smirnov, the president of the [breakaway] Dniester region, "evil which has turned the region into an open wound on the body of Moldova".

Voronin was speaking to residents of Calaras District in central Moldova today, the district administration has told Interfax-Ukraine.

"The authoritarian separatist regime in Tiraspol negatively affects not only the unity of Dniester citizens but also our country's economic development. This is a wound on our country's body, an open and painful wound. It hampers Moldova's European …
