South Africa's Department of Communications (DOC) said it will start issuing licences for mobile television, using the DVB-H format, by the first quarter of 2009. DOC director-general Lyndall Shope-Mafole said the government has indicated to the Local Organizing Committee of the Soccer World Cup that DVB-H mobile television will be a reality in time for the tournament hosted in South Africa in 2010.Shope-Mafole said the broadcasting digital migration policy adopted by Cabinet last week provides for mobile television.
