Home player Ephantus Mate beat a field of 60 players to claim the first leg of the 2008/9 Johnnie Walker Golf Series at Nyeri Golf Club over the weekend.He posted 40 points that included 21 points from the back nine to win by three points from Nyari's leading golfer George Kibira and Benjamin Inoti who took the second and third prizes respectively.

Following in fourth place with 36 points was Ndungu Wamburu while Nyahururu's Maina Kigundu was the best guest with 35 and the ladies prize went to Stella Mwangi with 34. Charles Mwaniki and Kimani Bow won the nines on 20 and 19 points.Mate will now lead a team of 10-qualifiers to the Johnnie Walker grand …
