It is with a combination of horror and sorrow that we continue to hear of fellow Ugandans perishing on our roads. In the past month or so, there has been a series of accidents involving fatalities and injuries and all of them could have been averted or at least the severity of injury minimised. We have heard the public outcry!

Following the tragic loss of lives at Lugazi on Jinja highway about two weeks ago, a new wave of media coverage has ensued and is commendable. I have listened to at least four radio talk shows and read newspaper articles covering road traffic accidents--in fact road traffic crashes is how the world is rephrasing. …
