from BUSINESS LINE, October 31, 2008 Mumbai, Oct. 30 - Buoyed by good demand for soda ash in Latin America, Tata Chemicals has reported a 33 per cent rise in net profit in the second quarter of the financial year ended September 30.

Mr Homi R. Khusrokhan, Managing Director, Tata Chemicals, said that the seven per cent fall in demand for soda ash in the US was more than compensated by the good demand in Latin America and Europe.

"The realisation from the soda ash business was much better due to good demand from chemical sector besides the container glass manufacturers and softening of input cost," he said.
