RELIGIOUS TECHNOLOGY Center, copyright holder for the Church of Scientology, appears to have won the latest battle in its continuing war with Internet free speech activists after a Virginia court ruled that postings of church material on the Internet were infringements of its copyrights.

However, despite a ruling that the verbatim postings by Arnaldo Lerma, a former Scientologist and Internet free speech activist, were indeed copyright violations, Judge Leonie Brinkema said the Lerma's postings were not "willful infringement" and that the court would not "impose heavy financial damages on the defendant."
