Olympics Failure - Where Does President Yar'Adua Stand Now?

The 2008 Beijing Olympics ended Sunday with host, China, toppling the former champions, United States on the medals table. China garnered 51 gold, 21 silver and 28 bronze medals ahead of the United States who got 36 gold, 38 silver and 36 bronze medals to place second, the first time in so many years.

Some Americans who could not fathom the fact that their once great sports country would play second fiddle to any other country, not the least China, have tried to re-write the calculation of medals to determine who tops.

Surprisingly, the American media are equally caught in this web, all because of skewed patriotism, putting the United States as the overall winner of the 2008 Beijing Olympics with a total overall medals of 110 to China's 100. The IOC which owns the Olympic Games, however, has China as the winner because one gold counts more than a million silver put together.
