THEY know that their nominations to top party posts do not count. Yet, some Umno branches in the on-going annual general meetings went ahead to propose candidates other than the incumbents for the two top party posts. More branches are expected to do the same when they hold their meetings in the coming weeks - a prelude to the October party polls - though most are likely to maintain the status-quo. To date, more than 40 of Umno's 20,000 branches had made off-beat nominations and grassroots leaders claimed that the number will be higher when the branch election period ends on Aug 24.
